The recreational village Waltersdorf is located close to the foot of the 793m high Lausche, the highest peak of the Zittauer Mountains. Waltersdorf stretches from Großschönau through the entire valley, enclosed on the left by Butter- and Sonneberg and on the right by Sängerhöhe and Lausche, reaching all the way to the Czech border, along the road to Ober- and Niederlichtenwalde. The location of Waltersdorf is among the most beautiful in the entire Zittauer Mountains.

Particularly popular are walks to the wooded peaks of Buch- or Sonneberg and the idyllically situated district of 'Neue Sorge' along the forest edge, as well as the mountain forests of Ottoberg and Sängerhöhe. But also well-known excursion destinations such as the spa town of Jonsdorf (with Nonnenfelsen, millstone quarries, etc.) or the spa town of Oybin with Mount Oybin, Töpfer, and Hochwald are easily accessible via hiking trails. However, the highlight is climbing the highest mountain in the Zittauer Mountains, Lausche. Accessible from Waltersdorf in a 1/2 to 1-hour hike, it offers a magnificent panoramic view stretching from the Erzgebirge over the Zittauer Mountains to the Giant Mountains.
